22 May Congratulations! Now what?
It’s that time of year. You’ve graduated. You’ve survived the pandemic. First of all, congratulations. It’s a big accomplishment, especially considering all that’s happened in the last few years. If you’re a business graduate, chances are good that you’ve landed a job. More congratulations. You’ve read and discussed all these great cases in class about what CEOs have done when facing certain decisions and you’re ready to follow in their footsteps. You’re ready to change the world.
Turns out the world isn’t quite ready for you. But that’s not your fault. Nor is it the world’s fault. It’s just a time of transition and of once again, learning the ropes. Remember that first day you arrived on campus and you didn’t know where anything was, whether you’d survive your roommate, what your professors expected, etc. Well, you get to do it again. And it won’t be the last time, so best to embrace change and enjoy the challenge.
This article has some good advice for your new start. It mainly has to do with resetting your expectations. YMMV, of course, based on your personality and the company you’ve joined.
